Live Eruption Tour From Reykjavik

On this tour will take you on a scenic drive along the lava shaped coast towards the first stop. Your experienced guide will lead you to the Parking. We start a short hike to a area where we can take you to the amazing view over the volcanic crater where on some days it spews lava up to 100 meters into the air.Keeping in mind that this is an active eruption site so it is ever-changing, on each and every day new and stunning events happen and not even the scientists can predict what happens next.Along the way you can witness lava rivers and small waterfalls and even lava pools! The total time spent here is between 4 hours, so remember to bring good shoes and a light snack and waterbottle is a good idea as well.Come with us to enjoy the wonders of the volcano!

  1. The Icelandic weather in January is always going to be unpredictable !
However, this trip should have been cancelled on the day we went. We were eventually picked up at 11.30 as opposed to a 11.00 time given (not a great start having to wait in the freezing cold ! ) The driver/guide was an enthusiastic Polish guy who gave us a brief explanation of the tour. The first stop was a small bubbling geyser and lava rocks, not bad before it started to drizzle.
The next stop was the actual volcanic walking trip and we started out with heavy mist and poor visibility. This got increasingly worse as the walk and steady incline increased. By the time we nearly reached the summit, it was absolutely pouring down with a very strong wind blowing and we could barely see a thing.
At this point the guide decided to go no further. In my opinion we should have never set off in the first place.
By the time we got back to our bus, we had probably walked 4 miles in freezing windy rain and completely soaked.
This was an absolute waste of money and quite frankly an awful experience. £80 for 4 hours !
I also have to mention the guide just in case “Bus Travel Iceland” are reading this. For most of the hike, he was on his phone messaging and hardly engaged with the group. Secondly, and more worrying, he was on his phone nearly all the time whilst driving and on a couple of occasions, he even had his laptop out !!
I’m sure that if the weather was kinder, it would be an interesting experience, but sadly not on this occasion.

  2. Truly a delightful day. Guides went above and beyond to show us some incredible things. Definitely worth spending a day on for any Iceland trip.

  3. Siggi was an incredible guide! He was knowledgeable, funny and truly wanted to make sure we had a great time. His knowledge of the area brought us to some incredible sites we would have missed with other guides. The sites themselves were awesome as well. Walking a lava field was a very cool experience!
